How can we know if we’re truly on our path in life? Everything feels uncertain and filled with doubt.
Yet staying still doesn’t seem right either. I believe it’s in the very act of moving that we begin to discover the way forward.
Perhaps the idea of a “correct” path is itself misguided, or at the very least, unnecessary. Maybe it’s not about whether we’re on the right path, but about how we’re walking.
Are we living from a place of love and trust? Or are we fighting against life, always looking ahead, wishing to be somewhere else, never truly present where we are?
Maybe the path is simply movement born out of contentment, walking without overthinking, without clinging to ambition or being driven by fear. Just living, step by step.
Letting go of expectations. Releasing the need to arrive anywhere beyond the next breath.
Is that truly possible? I don’t know. I face the same doubts.
Some argue that human beings are teleological, driven by goals and a sense of future direction. And maybe there’s truth in that. Perhaps we do need a sense of orientation to move forward.
But then there’s the path of surrender. What if Life-God is already leading us, and we don’t need to figure it all out? What if wherever we end up is exactly where we’re meant to be?
Perhaps our real destination isn’t external at all, but internal. Perhaps the only meaningful goal is a state of inner alignment with the wise source of life that guides us, whether we are aware of it or not, whether we agree with it or not.
There are a few spiritual indicators I’ve come to trust: inner peace, gratitude, love, and mental stillness. If these are present, then perhaps we’re walking well, no matter where we are headed.
But if we’re caught in negativity, anxiety, conflict, or scarcity, then it’s likely the ego is steering us, and we’re disconnected from the Divine. And in that case, it doesn’t matter where our goals are pointing, because we won’t find peace or happiness there.
